Lakshmibai, the Rani of Jhansi, was an integral part of the Indian fight for independence. Despite being a pro-British Queen for much of her reign, Lakshmibai eventually came around to the benefits of an independent India, and immediately set about using her power to fight against colonialist troops.

Alice Ball

The creator of the treatment for leprosy

Alice Ball was many things. Not just content with being the first black woman to receive a master's degree from The University of Hawaii AND the first female chemistry professor there, she was also the person who created a treatment for leprosy used for 20 years. Oh, and she did all this before the age of 24.

Wang Zhenyi

The ancient astronomer

This week's episode is all about the incredible Wang Zhenyi. Her main vocation was astronomy but managed she dabbled in maths, poetry and social activism as well. Despite being one of the most important thinkers of the Qing Dynastry, she didn't even make it past the age of 30.
